The E-flite® Micro DRACO is a scaled down version of the incredibly popular DRACO 2.0m, and is cheaper, better handling and easier to fly! It's an officially licensed replica of Mike Patey's ultimate bush plane, and can be flown on smaller surfaces than before.

MIKE PATEY'S STOL-MONSTER IN MICRO FORMAT

Mike Patey's undeniable passion, extraordinary drive and Back to Work™ work ethic have led him to design and build some of the most unique and incredible airplanes ? and his infectious enthusiasm has inspired thousands of people to enjoy model flying and man-carrying airplanes! Starting with the replacement of the Lycoming O-540 piston engine with a Pratt and Whitney PT6A-28 turboprop engine in a Wilga 2000 and many other subsequent modifications, Mike later proudly unveiled his 'ultimate bush plane', with about twice the performance at half the weight. It could travel the same places as a Carbon Cub, but climb twice as fast, reach an altitude of up to 28,000 feet and cruise at 290kmh with four people and luggage. The changes to the Wilga were so extensive that the FAA approved Mike's new design as an experimental exhibition aircraft. The E-flite DRACO 2.0m was unique and amazing in equal measure and has become one of the best selling RC airplanes of all time since its release! However, many pilots have asked for a smaller version that is more comfortable and easier to fly, and most importantly, more affordable. The Micro DRACO 800mm is in every respect the most practical replica of this prototype for advanced to experienced pilots to date!

Overview

Inspired by the incredible ingenuity and diligence Mike Patey put into building the original aircraft, E-flite released the first officially licensed scale replica of his ultimate bush plane ? the amazing DRACO 2.0m. Since its release, many pilots have dreamed of a scaled down version that is more affordable, more comfortable and easier to fly in more places and on smaller surfaces! The E-flite Micro DRACO 800mm fits the bill and is slightly larger than our UMX™ class (Ultra Micro eXtreme) and other ultra-micro sized models. This makes it possible to better replicate the complex design while including as much prototypical detail as possible. The Micro DRACO is still small and light enough to fly in large yards, small parks and sports fields. However, many surface details, including indicated rivets, sheet metal joints, profiling of the rudders, antennas, edge bow ?stinger? brackets and more could also be represented. Functional features include LED navigation and landing lights, implied strobe lights, landing flaps and a steerable tail wheel. Oversized tundra-style tires on the spring wire main landing gear with implied KING shock absorbers absorb bumps and provide excellent propeller clearance while allowing for takeoff and landing on paved runways, as well as sand and even grass fields.

The powerful brushless outrunner can power the prototypical 4-blade propeller with a 3S 300mAh battery for relaxed flight with easy aerobatics. Or you can use a 4S 300mAh battery without modifications or upgrades for above-average vertical climb performance and more aggressive aerobatic flight characteristics! The factory-installed Spektrum receiver/controller unit provides real-time telemetry data, including total battery voltage, current, motor RPM and more, to compatible AirWare™-equipped transmitters. In addition, the receiver is equipped with the exclusive and expertly tuned AS3X. This will make you feel like you're flying a much larger model ? even in a little wind ? and the optional SAFE Select technology makes it easier to fly successfully after you've mastered your beginner model! Best of all, the Micro DRACO comes from the factory with a high-quality, fully painted, ready-to-fly color scheme. The separate one-piece wing is quickly and easily installed with a single screw and can be conveniently removed. All in all, the model offers an authentic ? yet more affordable and comfortable ? DRACO flying experience, including unsurpassed STOL (Short Take Off and Landing) performance!

More information about Mike Patey:

Mike Patey was born with his twin brother Mark as numbers five and six in a family of eleven children in Gresham, Oregon. Growing up in a low-income family, they started their first business together at 15, Deck-It, building decks for their neighbors in Orem, Utah. Even before they graduated from high school, they had grown it into a company with nearly 200 employees. Their hard work and drive led them to start additional businesses and successfully develop and sell each company. Today, they both focus their passion for work on their own businesses, Mark on his company Best Tugs and Mike on EcoVap.

Mike is married to his wife Chandra and has four children. His journey in aviation began in 1971 with a Cessna 172L, when both Mike and his brother Mark independently decided to take up flying. In a strange "twin moment," they had both attended air shows in different states on the same day and were inspired to get their pilot's licenses without each other knowing. When they told each other on the phone about their decision, they were so excited about this huge coincidence that Mark immediately bought a used 172 and the rest is history, so to speak.

Mike continues his passion for flying and aviation today and manages to balance family, work and the community. "Our parents taught us that if you are blessed with a talent or financial means, then you should share it or you don't deserve it in the first place. We grew up destitute, but our parents always gave everything we could spare to those who had even less than us." Mike continues to invest his time, talents and energy into helping the local police with search and rescue missions, for example, while building an aviation community through his YouTube channel where he shares his passion. He is also incredibly generous when it comes to sharing his time and knowledge. To do this, he likes to interrupt his work on his projects and take time for visitors, even though he really just wants to get back to work ("Back To Work"). This sentence has now even become the slogan for his channel. "Back to work" means staying on top of something. I basically have this attitude towards my life. It means giving it your all, enjoying the process and working hard." A mantra that Mike truly lives by.

Mike holds several world speed records and plans to break them again. From dragsters to hill climbers to airplanes, racing is simply in Mike's blood. He enjoys building bigger, stronger and faster airplanes, developing new ideas and turning them into reality in his projects. Mike's enthusiasm is infectious and when you see him chatting with other pilots and brainstorming with them about new ideas or theories for better designs, you realize what a great asset he is to aviation. He has also inspired many to pursue their own dream of flying and get their own private pilot's license.

Experience level 2 ? Some experience required
Experience Level 2 aircraft like this are suitable for RC pilots who already have some experience and the skills to build, program and fly similar class models. And while this is the easiest DRACO model to fly to date, it is not a suitable first RC airplane for beginners or a 'next step after a trainer' model for RC pilots with little flying experience. Before attempting to fly the Micro DRACO, you should have the experience and skills required to fly high performance ultra-micro models such as the various UMX Timber models or larger models such as the Slow Ultra Stick 1.2m, Valiant 1.3m, Turbo Timber Evolution 1.5m or similar class models.

Are you new to the model flying hobby (RC / Radio Controlled)? If so, the Micro DRACO is not a suitable first model airplane and we recommend learning to fly with one of our specially designed trainer airplanes, such as the HobbyZone® Carbon Cub S 2 1.3m. Based on the Carbon Cub that Mike's wife Chandra Patey used to fly, the model is equipped with exclusive and innovative SAFE technology that makes it possible for almost anyone to learn to fly successfully! The Ready-To-Fly (RTF) Basic version includes almost everything needed to fly (except a compatible LiPo battery and charger, sold separately). It is the perfect choice if you are a model flying beginner.

Bind-N-Fly version
Do you already own a Spektrum transmitter? Bind-N-Fly (BNF) airplanes make it easier than ever to get in the air quickly and with the best possible flying fun. They come with the power system, servos and a Spektrum 2.4GHz receiver installed. All you need to do is bind the receiver to a compatible transmitter, complete the final assembly and you're ready to fly!

Exclusive technologies
This Micro DRACO is equipped with exclusive Spektrum™ AS3X® and SAFE® Select technologies. AS3X works behind the scenes to smooth out the effects of wind and turbulence for a safe feel that makes it feel like you're flying a much larger airplane. The optional SAFE Select offers bank angle limitations as well as automatic self-leveling that can be turned on and off with the push of a button, making this the easiest DRACO to fly yet!

Simple assembly
The Micro DRACO comes mostly factory assembled with the power system, servos and receiver installed. All you have to do is assemble the one-piece wing with a single screw. Of course, the wing can also be quickly and easily disassembled for even more convenient storage and transportation. What's more, the model is fully painted at the factory and finished with a high-quality decal, giving you a scale replica that you can proudly display anywhere.

Scale features
The Micro DRACO is equipped with several functional scale features, including landing flaps and LED navigation and landing lights and implied strobe lights. The model also has many prototypical details, including antennas, edge bow "stinger" brackets, molded rivets, sheet metal joints and profiled rudders.

High performance
The factory-installed brushless drive system powers the four-blade propeller with a 3S or 4S 300mAh battery. Use a 3S battery for relaxed, prototypical flying with simple aerobatic maneuvers or alternatively a 4S battery for above average vertical climb performance and more aggressive aerobatics ? without any modifications or upgrades!

Telemetry capable
The Micro DRACO 800mm is equipped with a control unit/flight controller that includes a ESC and Spektrum receiver that provides real-time flight battery voltage, current draw, motor RPM and other telemetry information to compatible Spektrum AirWare-equipped transmitters (including DX6e and 8e, DX6 G2/G3 and 8 G2, DX9, NX6 to 20, iX12 to 20 and others).

Robust chassis
The oversized tundra-style tires on the spring wire main landing gear with implied KING shock absorbers absorb bumps and provide excellent propeller clearance. They also allow taxiing, takeoff and landing on a variety of surfaces that most models this size can't handle - from grass runways in many parks and sports fields to gravel paths and paved surfaces.

Durable design
Advanced EPS material construction makes for a lightweight yet durable airframe that can also be easily repaired with foam-second glue, epoxy and other foam-friendly adhesives. If you damage airframe parts or components and can't repair them, a full line of replacement parts is available.
