The German armed reconnaissance vehicle Sd.Kfz.222 (Leichter Panzerspähwagen) was developed to meet requirements such as speed, reliability, simple construction and good off-road characteristics. After its introduction in 1938, it quickly became the most important German armored reconnaissance vehicle thanks to its speed and the devastating light Rheinmetall 20 mm autocannon. More than 1800 vehicles were produced between 1937 and 1943.
