Trabant is a brand of car manufactured in the GDR by VEB Sachsenring Automobilwerke in Zwickau. The 601 model came onto the market in 1964 and was produced until 1990. Several technically interesting solutions were used in Trabant cars. These included bodies made of plastic called Duroplast. It had a similar melting point to aluminum and increased the car's resistance to corrosion and pressure. Other notable solutions include a small two-stroke engine, large windows and a relatively spacious interior. The car developed a dizzying speed of just over 100km/h.
The Trabant can rightly be called a cult car from the GDR. To this day, it remains a recognizable and extremely popular classic among car enthusiasts. It also became a part of mass culture forever.
