SAB introduced the direct drive system for this class of helicopters:

However, in its efforts to improve performance, SAB has determined that the direct drive system may no longer be the right solution. The next generation of the RAW 420 will feature a belt-driven motor.

And so the RAW 420 Competition was born. Lighter, faster, and more flexible in selecting the desired rotor speed while delivering higher performance.
