ISDT BL8 Smart Battery Checker & Active Balancer 2S–8S
The ISDT BL8 is much more than a traditional LiPo checker: It combines precise cell voltage measurement with a powerful active balancer. This makes it ideal for model builders who not only want to monitor the condition of their lithium batteries but also quickly and efficiently balance out cell voltage discrepancies.

What sets it apart is its active balancing technology. While conventional passive balancers convert excess energy from more heavily charged cells into heat via resistors, the BL8 specifically transfers energy from cells with higher voltage to those with lower voltage. This results in significantly less heat loss and, most importantly, allows for much higher balancing currents. ISDT specifies a maximum weighted balancing current of up to 3 A for the BL8.

This is a significant advantage, especially for larger LiPo packs or batteries with significant cell drift. According to ISDT, under its own test conditions 3S/2200 mAh and a maximum cell deviation of 100 mV took approximately 15 minutes to balance, whereas the previous generation required up to six hours for the same task. ISDT reports a 2300% increase in efficiency under these test conditions.

Precise Control from 2S to 8S
The BL8 supports 2S to 8S lithium battery packs and connects to the battery via the standard XH-2.54 balancer connector. The voltage measurement range is 0.8 to 5.0 V per cell, with a specified measurement accuracy of ±5 mV. Cell voltages are displayed to three decimal places. A high-precision differential ADC chip detects even small voltage differences between individual cells.
This allows you to quickly determine whether a battery pack is properly balanced or if individual cells deviate noticeably from the rest. This makes the BL8 a practical tool for LiPo batteries in RC cars, model airplanes, helicopters, multicopters, and general model building.

Active balancing with up to 3 A
The key advantage over simple battery checkers lies in the integrated active balancer. The BL8 can not only display cell differences but also actively balance them. To do this, ISDT uses a dynamic energy transfer algorithm that detects cell voltage differences in the millisecond range and redistributes energy within the pack.
This can be particularly useful for larger battery capacities, where the comparatively small balancing currents of conventional chargers take a long time to balance the cells.

App Integration for Numerous Platforms
In addition to direct operation on the device itself, the BL8 also supports app/software control. Supported platforms include Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, HarmonyOS, and Linux. This allows for monitoring and management of the balancing process via an external device.

Despite its extensive features, the BL8 remains extremely compact: The housing measures just 66.13 × 42.77 × 13 mm and weighs only 28.8 g. A color display with a wide viewing angle and one-button operation round out the design.
