Audi quattro: The birth of a legend
The Audi quattro celebrated its premiere at the Geneva Motor Show on March 3, 1980. Development of the vehicle began in February 1977, inspired by the winter tests of the Audi 200 and the Volkswagen Iltis. It turned out that a slow off-road vehicle with all-wheel drive was better able to cope with difficult conditions than a sporty saloon with a powerful engine. The engineers then decided to adapt all-wheel drive for a passenger car - and so the quattro concept was born.

Its permanent all-wheel drive with differential locks made the vehicle incredibly successful in rallying. As early as 1981, the quattro rally car won its debut race at the January Rally, heralding an era of 4x4 dominance in rallying. It thus secured itself a permanent place in motorsport history.
